Canary Islands Face Migrant Crisis Stalemate

The Canary Islands are grappling with a record-breaking surge in migrant arrivals, with over 45,000 people reaching its shores this year.

The crisis has reignited political tensions, as the regional government struggles to manage the influx, including 5,800 unaccompanied minors.

President Fernando Clavijo has criticized both the national government and his coalition partner, the Popular Party (PP), for failing to address the issue.

Clavijo accuses the PP of blocking reforms for redistributing minors across Spain, while the national government is accused of inaction.

Meanwhile, the Socialist Party has urged Clavijo to pressure the PP or expel them from the coalition.

Despite the political deadlock, Clavijo insists the regional government remains united, though the crisis continues to strain resources and political alliances.
