Corruption Allegations Rock Spanish Politics

Published: 2024-12-16

Businessman Víctor de Aldama has accused former Spanish Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos and his advisor Koldo García of receiving illegal commissions in exchange for public contracts.

Aldama claims that construction companies paid between €3.4 and €4 million, with part of the funds allegedly benefiting the Socialist Party (PSOE).

While Aldama has promised evidence, his claims lack substantial proof, with only a handwritten note presented so far.

The PSOE has denied the allegations and plans legal action against Aldama for defamation.

Investigations by the current Transport Ministry have found no irregularities in the contracts.

The case has sparked significant political controversy, with Aldama also implicating other high-ranking officials in the alleged corruption scheme.
