Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) has announced its participation in the upcoming Diada independence march, organized by the Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC) and Òmnium Cultural, among other pro-independence groups.
This decision marks a return to the event after a notable absence in 2022, when ERC opted out due to disagreements with the march's critical stance towards the Catalan government.
The 2024 Diada, set for September 11, comes at a time when the independence movement is divided and lacks a majority in the Catalan Parliament.
The march will be decentralized, taking place in five cities: Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona, Lleida, and Tortosa, highlighting grievances against Spanish state dependency.
Despite internal tensions, ERC's involvement underscores its continued commitment to Catalonia's independence cause.
