Illa Appoints Key Figures in Catalonia's Government

Published: 2024-08-10

Salvador Illa, the new president of Catalonia, has appointed key figures to his government, emphasizing stability and continuity in economic and security policies.

Alícia Romero, a trusted ally and former spokesperson for the PSC in the Catalan Parliament, will take on the role of Minister of Economy and Finance.

Her primary task will be to negotiate a new financial framework for Catalonia, aiming to double the region's revenue and establish a unique tax model.

Romero's experience in economic negotiations with ERC and her strategic role in past budget discussions highlight her suitability for this position.

Meanwhile, Núria Parlon, the current mayor of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, has been confirmed as the Minister of Interior and Security.

Parlon is expected to lead significant reforms in the police force, focusing on enhancing security measures.

These appointments reflect Illa's commitment to maintaining strong ties with coalition partners and ensuring effective governance in Catalonia.
