Madrid to Open First Male Victim Center

Published: 2024-09-12

The Community of Madrid, led by President Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has announced the establishment of Spain's first specialized center for male victims of sexual violence.

Scheduled to open in 2025, the center will receive an annual investment of 700,000 euros.

This initiative has sparked controversy, with left-wing opposition criticizing it as a provocation to the feminist movement, while the far-right party Vox supports it.

Despite statistics showing that the majority of sexual violence victims are women, Ayuso argues that many men, including minors, suffer from such violence, often linked to practices like chemsex.

The center aims to provide comprehensive support through a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, and legal experts.

Critics argue that resources should focus on integrated support for all victims, regardless of gender.
