The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and Junts are experiencing a renewed momentum in their negotiations, which extends beyond the general budget discussions.
This week, both parties are working towards agreements that will enable the Spanish Congress to initiate investigations into the 2017 Barcelona and Cambrils terrorist attacks and the so-called Operation Catalunya.
These investigations were initially agreed upon in August 2023 as part of a deal with ERC and Junts to support Francina Armengol's election as Congress president.
The investigations had stalled but are now set to proceed, with closed-door meetings scheduled to vote on work plans and potential witnesses.
This development follows a recent meeting in Switzerland between PSOE and Junts, signaling a potential thaw in their relations.
The PSOE's decision to reactivate these investigations is seen as a strategic move to foster a better negotiating climate with Junts, as both parties continue to navigate complex political negotiations.
