Rail Strike Suspended Amid Key Agreement

A major rail strike in Spain, set to disrupt services nationwide, has been largely called off after last-minute negotiations.

The Ministry of Transport, the Catalan Government, and key unions reached an agreement to address concerns over the transfer of Rodalies commuter services to Catalonia.

Only the CGT union remains in protest, but its impact is expected to be minimal.

The deal ensures Rodalies will remain part of the Renfe Group for now, with a new joint company, Rodalies Catalunya, to manage operations.

This company will have a majority state ownership, easing fears of job losses and maintaining workers' rights.

The agreement also delays the full transfer of control to Catalonia, allowing time to resolve legal and operational challenges.

The resolution highlights efforts to balance public service needs with labor rights.
