Severe Weather Triggers Evacuations in Málaga

Published: 2024-11-13

Málaga and surrounding regions are facing severe weather conditions as a DANA (isolated high-altitude depression) brings heavy rainfall and potential flooding.

The Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a red alert, predicting over 100 liters of rain per square meter in just 12 hours.

In response, authorities have evacuated nearly 3,000 residents from areas along the Guadalhorce and Campanillas rivers as a precaution against possible river overflows.

Train services between Málaga and Sevilla have been suspended, and many schools and businesses remain closed.

The emergency measures aim to prevent incidents similar to those caused by a previous DANA that recently affected the region.

Residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and avoid unnecessary travel.
