Firefighters are battling two simultaneous wildfires in the Priorat region, threatening the Serra del Montsant Natural Park.

The fires, which began in Cabacés and Porrera, have already consumed over 100 hectares, with the potential to expand significantly.

The Cabacés fire alone could affect up to 1,000 hectares, reminiscent of the devastating 1981 blaze.

Strong winds and drought conditions are complicating firefighting efforts, with nearly 170 firefighters deployed.

The fires originated from a power line, and the situation is exacerbated by water shortages due to prolonged drought.

Local authorities have resorted to using alternative water sources, including emptying local pools, to combat the flames.

The fires have also caused power outages affecting approximately 1,400 homes.
