The Spanish government has approved a series of economic and social measures during its final Council of Ministers meeting of the year.

Among the key decisions is a 2.8% increase in contributory pensions for 2025, benefiting over 9 million pensioners.

Public transport subsidies, including free Renfe passes for certain routes, have been extended until mid-2025, with plans for further discounts afterward.

Additionally, the government has maintained protections for vulnerable households, such as preventing utility cutoffs.

These measures come as part of broader negotiations within the coalition government and with parliamentary allies, aiming to balance social support with fiscal responsibility.

The government also plans to phase out reduced VAT on basic foods by 2025, citing easing inflation.
