Spain to Regularize Migrants After Dana

Published: 2025-02-10

The Spanish government is set to grant one-year residency and work permits to at least 25,000 undocumented migrants affected by the devastating Dana storm in October.

This measure, to be approved by the Council of Ministers, aims to support those in vulnerable situations, including their immediate families.

The initiative will also simplify permit renewals for immigrants in the affected areas, ensuring they can access aid and employment opportunities.

The move has drawn comparisons to similar actions taken after the 11-M attacks in 2004. Local officials and unions have welcomed the decision, emphasizing the need for adequate resources to implement it effectively.

The regularization is seen as a step toward addressing labor shortages and aiding economic recovery in the storm-hit regions.
