King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain inaugurated the new University Hospital of Cuenca, the first in the country to feature an AI-powered MRI system.
The state-of-the-art facility, built with a €200 million investment, spans 100,000 square meters and includes over 4,800 spaces across 13 buildings.
It is set to open by Easter 2025 and will employ 220 new healthcare professionals.
The royal visit also marked a nostalgic return to Cuenca, where the couple began their honeymoon 20 years ago.
Despite rainy weather, hundreds of locals gathered to greet the monarchs, who also visited the city hall and reflected on the hospital's significance for Spain's healthcare system.
