Four young friends from Madrid, aged 20 and 21, tragically lost their lives in a car accident on Saturday night in the Puerto de Lunada, Cantabria.

Their vehicle veered off the CA-643 road and plunged 200 meters down a steep slope.

The group was traveling to a rural getaway in the Valles Pasiegos when the accident occurred.

Emergency services were alerted by an automatic crash detection system from one of the victims' phones.

Despite the challenging terrain, rescue teams worked tirelessly through the night to recover the victims.

Another car carrying four friends traveling behind them was unharmed.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with concerns raised about the road's safety during snowy conditions.
