Jokin Perona, the 46-year-old Deputy for Finance of the Guipúzcoa Provincial Council, tragically died after being struck by a vehicle while cycling in Peleas de Abajo, Zamora.

The incident occurred around 9:15 PM on Tuesday, as Perona was riding with his 10-year-old son, who fortunately was unharmed.

Emergency services arrived quickly, but sadly, they could only confirm Perona's death at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle tested negative for alcohol.

Perona was on vacation in the area, a place he visited annually due to his wife's roots there.

The local mayor announced that the municipality would observe a period of mourning in honor of the late politician.
