Vox Councilor Defies Party, Stays in Extremadura Government

Published: 2024-07-12

In a surprising turn of events, Ignacio Higuero, the Vox councilor in Extremadura's regional government, has decided to remain in his position despite his party's order to withdraw from coalition governments with the Popular Party (PP).

Higuero, who heads the Forest Management and Rural World department, announced his decision alongside Extremadura's President María Guardiola.

He criticized Vox's decision, stating that changing the rules mid-game is neither loyal nor honorable.

Guardiola praised Higuero's commitment to Extremadura and confirmed she will now govern alone.

This development comes after Vox's national leader, Santiago Abascal, announced the party would exit all regional coalition governments with PP.

The move has created political instability in several Spanish regions, including Extremadura.
