Wildfire in Teruel Uncovers Civil War Bombs

Published: 2024-08-12

A wildfire near Corbalán in Teruel has led to the discovery of several Civil War-era bombs, prompting the deployment of the Guardia Civil's bomb disposal unit, GEDAX.

The fire, which has burned approximately 280 hectares, is suspected to be arson, according to ongoing investigations by Seprona.

Despite the challenges, including the presence of unexploded ordnance, firefighting efforts by the Government of Aragón and the Military Emergency Unit (UME) have made significant progress, particularly on the left flank of the fire.

The right flank remains active, with aerial and ground teams working tirelessly to contain the blaze.

Local authorities have assured that the town of Corbalán is not currently at risk, thanks to the extensive deployment of resources.

The A-226 road remains closed to facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles.
