In a grand ceremony at the Teatro Romano in Mérida, the Medallas de Extremadura were awarded to notable figures who have made significant contributions to the region.

This year's honorees include Álvaro Martín, a world champion athlete; José Pizarro, a renowned chef; the Hermanas Josefinas de Plasencia, a religious congregation dedicated to education and social services; and Asunción Gómez Pérez, a pioneer in artificial intelligence.

The event, part of the Día de Extremadura celebrations, highlighted the theme 'Extremadura, the motherland,' and featured speeches from local dignitaries and performances by the Orquesta de Extremadura.

Each recipient expressed gratitude and a commitment to continue serving and promoting the values of Extremadura.
