Junts Challenges Spain's Omnibus Decree

Published: 2025-01-28

The Spanish government faces a political standoff as Junts per Catalunya refuses to support the omnibus decree unless key measures are voted on separately.

The decree, which includes pension increases, transport subsidies, and disaster relief, failed to pass Congress last week due to opposition from Junts, PP, and Vox.

Josep Rius, Junts' spokesperson, insists the government must "unbundle" the measures to gain their support.

Meanwhile, Vice President Yolanda Díaz urges the government to reintroduce the decree unchanged, challenging opposition parties to vote against it again.

The political deadlock highlights tensions within Spain's coalition government and the challenges of governing with a minority.
