The vibrant city of Pamplona transformed instantly as the San Fermín festival began with the traditional chupinazo at noon on Saturday.
The folk dance group Duguna, celebrating its 75th anniversary, was chosen by popular vote to light the rocket signaling the start of the nine-day fiesta.
Despite a 70% chance of rain, thousands gathered in the town square, ready to dive into 204 hours of non-stop celebration.
This year's festival boasts over 514 official events, including daily bull runs starting July 7th, concerts, street music, and fireworks.
The festivities, coinciding with two weekends, promise an extended period of revelry until July 14th, when the emotional 'Pobre de Mí' song marks the end of San Fermín 2024.
