Rocío Monasterio, the former leader of Vox in Madrid, has resigned from her seat in the Madrid Assembly following her removal as the party's regional president.
The decision was communicated by the party's secretary-general, Ignacio Garriga, and ultimately made by Vox's national leader, Santiago Abascal.
Monasterio, a founding member of Vox, expressed her discontent with the party's shift away from internal democracy, citing recent changes that allow the national leadership to appoint regional committees without elections.
Her resignation highlights ongoing internal conflicts within Vox, as Monasterio was one of the few remaining original members with a significant role.
José Antonio Fúster, the current national spokesperson, will replace her as the regional president, a move seen as consolidating Abascal's control over the party.
Despite the leadership change, Monasterio was offered to remain as a spokesperson in the Assembly, a position she declined, choosing instead to return to her career in architecture.
