Spain has granted asylum to Edmundo González Urrutia, the Venezuelan opposition candidate, who faced arrest in Venezuela.
The decision, described as humanitarian and political, was made without any concessions to the Maduro government.
González had been sheltered in the Dutch Embassy in Caracas before moving to the Spanish ambassador's residence.
Spain's Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, emphasized the country's commitment to protecting political rights and democracy.
Spain continues to refuse recognition of Nicolás Maduro's election victory without full transparency of electoral records.
This move underscores Spain's support for Venezuelan democracy and its people.
