Vox Leader Faces Scrutiny Over Extra Salary

Published: 2024-08-05

Ignacio Garriga, the Secretary General and Vice President of Vox in Catalonia, has come under scrutiny for receiving a monthly extra salary of €3,700 from the parliamentary group, in addition to his public salary and allowances.

This revelation comes from the 2023 financial accounts presented by Vox, which show that Garriga has not declared this extra income in his official activity report.

The Catalan Parliament has since modified its regulations to prohibit parliamentary group leaders from using public funds for personal salaries, following recommendations from the Accounts Auditor.

Despite the controversy, the Parliament cannot sanction Garriga for past actions as they occurred in a previous legislative term.

The situation has raised concerns about transparency and accountability in the use of public funds by political parties.
