The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, recently visited Rabat to discuss the ongoing issue of irregular migration from Morocco to the Canary Islands.
Clavijo praised Morocco's efforts in curbing illegal immigration, which he described as "unmanageable" without their cooperation.
Both parties are working on solutions for the repatriation of unaccompanied minors, a significant concern for the Canary Islands, which currently hosts 5,400 such minors.
The discussions also touched on maritime border demarcation and airspace management, with both sides expressing a desire for improved relations and cooperation.
Morocco has shown willingness to accept back its citizens who have migrated illegally, but highlights challenges due to European legal and administrative procedures.
The dialogue aims to strengthen ties and address shared challenges, including migration and territorial issues.
