In a significant development in the ongoing migration crisis, Gran Canaria has witnessed the arrival of its largest migrant boat to date.
A cayuco carrying 231 individuals, including 58 minors and 13 women, reached the island's shores unaided.
This marks a historic moment for Gran Canaria, although larger vessels have previously arrived in other parts of the Canary Islands.
The migrants, originating from sub-Saharan Africa, embarked on an arduous journey from Gambia, lasting 11 days.
Upon arrival, they received medical attention, with three individuals hospitalized for minor conditions.
Despite this large arrival, the overall number of migrants reaching the Canary Islands has decreased by 75% in October compared to the same period last year.
