Renfe's Talgo Avril trains faced another major disruption on January 1, 2025, due to a software malfunction.
The issue, affecting communication between control systems and battery chargers, left all 28 scheduled trains inoperable, impacting over 14,000 passengers.
The high-speed trains, connecting Madrid to regions like Galicia, Asturias, and Valencia, have been plagued by problems since their launch in May 2024. Renfe has implemented contingency plans, including rebooking passengers on other trains and arranging road transport where necessary.
The company has also suspended ticket sales for affected routes and waived cancellation fees.
Talgo, the train manufacturer, is working to resolve the issue but has not provided a timeline.
This incident adds to ongoing tensions between Renfe and Talgo, with the operator seeking compensation for delays and service disruptions.
